Fresh From the Oven

Hello all,

This is where I’ll post everything that’s new on the site – new photos, photo outings and trips, events and anything else I want to put here… ;-)

I’ll be adding stuff here as I go along, so keep posted!

All the best to you, and remember
to keep looking for the beauty and light that are everywhere!

December 30th, 2015

… Just 1 day till year’s end; and what a great way to end it!
This last month, 3 of my fine art photographs found loving homes and hearts to fill:
Ayelet from Pardes-Hana-Karkur bought one for her living room and another for her kitchen;
Eyal from Ramat-HaSharon bought a smaller, more intimate work - “Pink”, the 2nd from a limited edition of 6.

Eyal wrote:
“Shalom Smadar,
The picture is beautiful!
I’ll send you a photo soon. {{so I’ll be able to see it hanging in his home – s.b}}.
One of the things that really caught me was that you don’t use computer manipulation, but show the photo “As Is”, like they used to.
All the best, and thank-you!
Eyal”

Ayelet bought two fine art photographs – ”Rainy Day Tree”, taken at Izuz, in Israel’s (usually very dry) Negev; and ”Cool Lemon” from my 365-a-photo-a-day project

It gives me such joy and satisfaction to know that people bring my art into their homes, into their lives!

** This is the work I have on show at the annual Natanya Artists’ Association’s exhibition.
I chose this picture, entitled “Autumn”, for the theme of the exhibition, “Seasons”.

** I want to tell you about a new service I’ve launched…

Cut and Polish!

Have you ever had this experience: You come home from a lovely vacation with a ton of snapshots, but when you look at them… disappointment!

… I’ll tell you a secret, just between you and me: There might be quite a few really great photos hiding in there. You just have to know how to find them, and maybe give them a tweak or two.
So, OK… it’s usually not quite as simple as that, but I can help you get there.

To celebrate the new Cut and Polish service, I want to give you a present:
Send me 5 photographs you’d like to examine, & I’ll help you decide
– which is most worth keeping/showing
– can they be improved, & how
– if they’re good – what makes them good
– & if not so – what’s the problem, & how can you do better next time.
Send the pics with your question/s to: smadar.barnea@gmail.com.
The first 10 mails I receive will get my reply at absolutely no charge!

** I’m happy to announce that a picture of mine is now in the Jerusalem offices of JVP.
Last week I received the honor and privilege of a private tour of the premises with real VIP attention.
The photo “My Neighborhood IV”, from the “Through the Looking Glass” series, is now displayed in Nofar Amikam’s office.

** On Thursday, August 13th, I’ll be attending the opening ceremony of “Positive”, the Kfar-Saba photography club’s exhibition – “Back Yard”.
38 pictures will be on show, one by each of the participants – the results of this year’s deliberations with Assaf Gaam Hacohen, our curator.
On show in the Sapir center in Kfar Saba, until October 7th.

** The Natanya Artists’ Association’s annual art exhibition, featuring one work per (almost) all the active artists, in a wide variety of artistic media, styles and genres  – will be opening soon.
This year’s theme is “Seasons”, and all the 2D works will be 70x70cm in size.
Open to the public from August 18th, with a grand opening on August 28th at noon at the Cliff Gallery (HaTzuk) in Natanya.

What have I forgotten? I can’t remember at the moment. When I do, I’ll let you know.  :-)

June 24th, 2015:

A wasted day at the garage, servicing my BMW, turned into a fruitful, enjoyable experience, once I turned off the automatic negativity that this pastime usually awakens in most of us.
I sat in comfort in an airy, well-lit waiting room, enjoyed some idle conversation with nice people, and most of all – opened my eyes and let them roam freely.
I’ve just added two of the resulting pictures to the galleries here – one to “Boundaries” and one to “Through the Looking Glass”.
The latter caused me a short conundrum: It’s a reflection. Which means it wasn’t shot through glass, as are all the rest of the pictures in the series. But I decided that even though the original Alice had to go into and through the mirror in order to reach her wonderland, I could give myself some “literary license” here.
So, here are the 2 images. With a click you’ll be able to see them better, in their respectful galleries.

First post – May 10th, 2015 :

So -

Here goes:

I recently added 2 new galleries to the site – “Brush Strokes” and “Circle in the Sand”.

In the first – Brush Strokes – I show some of the pictures I created with the object of showing seemingly-painted lines and textures; all made with only pure photography, of course. This is taking my overall definition of being “an artist who paints (usually) abstract pictures, using only a camera as my paint-brush” to the absolute limit.
Naturally, the emphasis here is on color and the movement of the “brush”, with the subject apparent only vaguely, or not at all.
Here are 2 examples:

Printable in almost any size. Beautiful for your office or living room

For technical reasons, this picture isn’t in the gallery. It’s here to remind you that if YOU
want something “almost but not quite” what you’ve seen, you can always ask me, and we’ll find what suits you best

You’re invited to look at the Brush Strokes gallery.

While you’re there, you can also go to “Circles in the Sand“, which is the second new gallery, showing the beautiful shapes and textures created by the elements along the sea-shore.
You can read the short post in my blog, where I wrote about the outing that produced most of the photographs currently in the gallery.
2 examples here:

The somber colors in the picture are balanced by humor, and by the softness of gentle curves

That’s all for now, folks!

All the best to you,
and remember to keep looking for the beauty and light that are everywhere!
