Maybe you don’t know me that well, yet, but I hate – really hate – to get up early.
Who am I kidding? I hate to get up any time…!
Don’t talk to me about the early bird. Who wants to catch a worm, anyway, huh?
But sometimes – like today and yesterday – it’s got to be done. Bummer!
So yesterday I stumbled out at 5:45 am.

And …!

What a reward I got for my effort! Heavy fog and a huge orange globe of a sun came together to create a sunrise such as I have never seen! A wisp of a cloud decorated the glowing orb, and lines of trees stretched out before it in gradually-dimming shades of gray.

And now I can hear you asking yourselves why you’re reading an eloquent description, instead of looking at a once-in-a-lifetime, breathtaking photograph. After all, everyone knows that a picture is worth a thousand words; and I’m a photographer…
It’s very simple: I was driving, and I just couldn’t stop to take the picture!

Of course, a few minutes later I pulled over, took out my trusted pocket camera (which is my almost constant companion, as many of you may remember). But by that time, there were only “leftovers” to capture.
Here is the result:

Now, if you noticed, I said at the start that today I had to get up at the same ungodly hour. This time I was ready with my “good” camera, and was prepared to stop at the drop of a penny, hoping against hope to be greeted by a similarly glorious sunrise.

But -

Today I started out 5 minutes later than yesterday; it’s also one day later in Spring (so sunrise is a tiny bit earlier, anyway); and that’s enough for a complete miss. Sunrise and sunset in Israel are notoriously short: a few minutes, and the show of color is over. This morning the relentless sun was already higher in the sky, laughing at me and leaving me only a memory of the picture that I had photographed with only my eyes.

Till next time -

Look for the beauty and light that are everywhere.

- Smadar

p.s.
I also wanted to tell you that I’ve just uploaded 3 new pictures to my site. You can find them in “Hot from the Oven”.
